“It’s easy to take your clothes off and have sex. … But opening up your soul to someone, letting them into your spirit, thoughts, fears, futures, hopes, and dreams … that is being naked.”
The two words naked and nude always baffle me. Without looking up the formal denotative meaning of it, the word naked brings immediate intimacy. It requires that the person decides to actively be vulnerable with another person — to truly strip away all fronts and walls. Whereas nude is a word describing the portrayal of a person. It doesn’t require vulnerability — the person only needs to seemingly be in the nude. Nudity has much to do with aesthetics and focuses on how others are looking at the subject. Although the two words are conventionally used interchangeably, it is always important to keep in mind the differences in order to correctly examine the intimacy behind the intentions of a person. Is your significant other truly being emotionally/spiritually naked with you, or is he/she only in the nude?

I always thought that nude was a more artistic, sentimental version of naked…
